Maintenance is extremely important to preserve the productivity, efficiency, accuracy and durability of your CNC equipment, so there are essential maintenance activities that should not be overlooked, these range from regular cleaning, the use of a suitable oil, cleaning and oil change in the spindle cooling unit, among others.
Lubrication
It is very important to keep the lubrication unit loaded with the proper oil, since using a non-recommended oil could cause irreversible damage to the unit. It is always recommended to clean the cup, pump suction and reservoir before refilling. Refilling depends on the hours of use, but in general it is recommended every 2,000 hours.
This equipment uses a mixture of air and oil to lubricate the spindle bearings, and it is extremely important to maintain the flow of this lubrication, as insufficient supply can cause bearing damage. The air pressure of this supply should always be maintained at 0.7 MPa (90 psi), considering that this type of equipment has an average consumption of 500 liters per minute.
Another element to be taken care of are the air filters, which are divided into the oil, carbon and dust particle separator; and the water separator, which purifies the air and removes moisture from it. It is also important to install a compressor and a dryer at the air inlet.
Spindle cooling
It is vital to ensure regular cleaning of the filters and oil change of the spindle cooling unit, which is located at the rear or side of the machine, and keeps the spindle bearings at a suitable temperature. When coolant is used through the spindle it usually has a (Thru-pin) that must be changed every 2,000 hours of operation and, although it is considered a consumable, it is of utmost importance.
Electrical requirements
The internal operating voltage must be maintained at 200 V and ensure adequate power supply; it is also necessary to keep the cabinets clean, accommodate the cables or harnesses and secure the connections.
Leveling
Leveling is one of the basic concepts of installation, and every six months and every year it is required to verify this leveling. Ideally, it should be kept within a range of 0.02 mm/m, since the accuracy and useful life of the equipment can be affected by inadequate leveling. It is also important to verify that the machine is supported at all 8 points.
ATC or tool changer
In the tool chain section (magazine) of the ATC, it is always importan to check the lubrication of the chain, the cleanliness of the stations, and the condition of directional valves, sensors and wiring.
Control panel
The control panel should be checked periodically, including voltage measurement, cleaning of the fans and filters of the shaft controllers (drives), retightening of connections and checking the current of the motors. Also, check that cables and harnesses are properly installed and that dust seals or gaskets are in good condition.
Spindle and linear axis cleaning
For this cleaning, avoid the use of pressurized air and use only a brush; also, do not use solvents or benzine, warm water on a soft cloth is enough.
