Okuma: leaders in CNC Controls
With a history of more than 100 years, Okuma was the first comprehensive manufacturer of machinery and controls by developing the OSP NC controller with absolute position feedback encoder, becoming Japan's only comprehensive manufacturer of both machine and control. At HEMAQ we are proud to be Okuma's partners in Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean, and to bring its high technology and innovation to these regions.
Okuma not only pioneered in the creation of CNC controls but has continued to innovate in their development for 60 years; from the OSP 2200L control in 1973 to the implementation of intelligent NC in 2004, and suite controls in 2014 with the introduction of OSP Suite and the Eco Suite, and up to the current OSP-P300.
In 1963 Okuma developed the OSP NC controller with absolute position feedback encoder, becoming Japan's only comprehensive manufacturer of both machine and control.

Advantages of Okuma numerical control
The controls of Okuma CNC machines are, in general terms, automation systems that allow the operator to manage parameters such as speed, feed, and altitude measurements during the machining process through an interface that prioritizes manufacturing needs and experience.
So, regardless of the model of the equipment, Okuma controls provide additional efficiency for manufacturing, since they are built, among many other advantages, to share their database automatically with other areas, which diminish redundancies in operations and considerably reduces setup times by allowing the operators to configure the equipment themselves.
Control features
Okuma controls have several unique features, such as the Cycle Time Reduction Function, which reduces the wheelbase for efficient tool changes or pallet rotations, saving time and money. Another example is the One-Step Advance and Return feature, which gives the operator control over the automatic tool changer (ATC) or automatic pallet changer (APC), so recovering from an emergency stop, power outage or reset is as simple as pressing a button.
Also, with such variety of features found in Okuma controllers, it's no wonder some go under-utilized. Such is the case of the 5-Axis Auto Tuning feature, which facilitates the process of probing and tweaking for the operator; the Collision Avoidance System, which prevents machine components from colliding with each other based on a specified clearance value, and the Machining Navi feature, which reduces chatter by measuring the vibrations that occur while a tool is cutting and makes RPM adjustments based on the feedback.
The control design of Okuma's CNC machines prioritizes contemporary manufacturing needs and enhance the operator experience.
With so many features it is impossible not to take advantage of your Okuma machine, we invite you to learn more about OSP controls at: www.okuma.com/knowledge-center.
