The aerospace industry is today one of the most important and relevant industries for the world’s economy due to its high degree of specialization, technology and sophistication in its products require. What does this industry include? The design, manufacture, marketing and maintenance of aircraft, spacecraft, rockets, as well as all related equipment for their operation.
Beyond its economic benefits, which are immense, the aerospace industry contains the research aspect, which is the foundation of development.
By 2021, according to the Opportimes portal, the United States continued to be the export leader with almost 90 billion dollars, something very positive for Mexico being the neighboring country.
What is Mexico's aerospace situation today? There is a goal set as a country by its most important space entities: to transform Mexico into a relevant space player both regionally and internationally in the upcoming decades, in governmental (including military) and commercial (civil) segments. And it´s already becoming a crucial player in a global level.
Some of the most relevant entities in the country are: the Mexican Space Agency (AEM), the Latin American and Caribbean Space Agency (ALCE)-Mexico, the Aerospace Fair of Mexico (FAMEX), the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (FEMIA). (Romero, 2023).
Did you know that HEMAQ is a very active participant in the aerospace sector in Mexico? Being co-founding partners of the Monterrey Aerocluster created in 2009, and our director and founder of HEMAQ, Lic. Benito Gritzewsky, former president of FEMIA (2015-2017), part of our objective as a company is to be able to contribute to the country in the different related activities so that together, we can achieve the challenging established goals.
The manufacturing of aircraft parts involves high performance and extreme precision machining of complex and rigid alloys and shapes, large parts, and the use of sophisticated materials. In HEMAQ, we have 5-axis multitasking and milling machines, lathes and machining centers, among other equipment that allows us to meet the highest quality and safety standards required by the aeronautical sector.
The main opportunities that Mexico faces today in the Aerospace Industry are:
- To become producers instead of importers: there are many products that we buy today that we can start producing by implementing better practices.
- To be the main supplier of the US and Europe: both seek to reduce their dependence on China.
- Increase global participation of SME companies that have everything to compete in the international sector (PINEDA, 2021).
Our upcoming participation in FAMEX 2023 this April 26-29, aims to be part of this transformation that we as a country are experiencing, and support the growth of the aerospace industry in Mexico. We will have on display the GENOS M460-5AX Okuma machine and the OB7 cobot from Productive Robotics of our OTOMATIQA business unit and among other accessory equipment from the PERIFERIQ unit. We look forward to seeing you!
